We incorporate the principles of Forest School in our Learning Outside the Curriculum. The concept originated in Scandinavia in the 1950’s. A child-centred, holistic approach originally aimed at pre-school children, it was found that children who had attended forest school then arrived at school with strong social and communication skills; with the ability to work in groups effectively; and generally possessing high self-esteem and confidence in their own abilities. These foundations helped them to raise their academic achievements later in life. In a world of mobile phones, I-Pads, computer games and health & safety, children spend less and less time playing outside and these types of opportunity have become more and more important
