Term 2

Term 2 already?! Time flies when you’re having fun! Our Big Question this term is ‘What if I Danced all Night?’
Week 5: Lucy’s Birthday
We have been celebrating our class puppet’s 5th birthday! We have used our phonic knowledge to write lists and invitations, made birthday cards, counted out candles, and baked some delicious cakes – yummy! We also worked together to write our own recipe, putting the photos we took in the right order, and writing instructions to match the pictures.
Elf Day
What a bunch of cute little Elves we had helping us to raise money for the the Alzheimer's Society!
Week 4: Diwali
The children have had a colourful week learning all about Diwali. They acted out and retold the story of Rama and Sita and learnt about how Hindu’s celebrate Diwali. The children enjoyed making coconut barfi along with their own Diya lamps and mehndi hand designs. We also had a very exciting visit from Dance Days who came and taught us some Indian dances in a Diwali themed workshop! We had lots of fun!
Week 3: Dia De Los Muertos
This week we have been diving into the celebration of Dia de los Muertos. We learnt about how and why people celebrate, and discussed how the colours and music made us feel “happy”. We read the story ‘the invisible string’ and talked about how as long as we keep thinking about them, the people we love will always be connected to us. We thought about people who are important to us and those we might miss, drawing pictures of ourselves connected to them. We also wrote messages to people we miss and tied them on our thinking tree. We made our own calavera masks, created butterfly sun catchers, identified shape to make marigolds, and counted out the correct number of butterflies to visit each door. We also had lots of fun playing in the tuff tray!
Week 2: We will remember them
This week we have been learning about Remembrance Day. We found out why we wear poppies, and the importance of not forgetting, and discussed some of the important people in our own lives that serve in the military. We made our own poppy wreaths and split-pin poppies, counted with poppies, and even made some poppies out of loose parts – poppies everywhere!
We also had a very exciting visitor this week. A huge thank you to Sgt. Purcell who came in and spoke to us about his job in the army, and brought in his army kit and uniform – the children absolutely loved trying it on!
Week 1: Whizz, Bang, Fizz, Pop! We have been leaning about Guy Fawkes this week! We turned our names into rockets, made firework patterns out of beads, crafted firework pictures out of loose parts, learnt about the gun powder plot in our small world, and became artists, mixing oranges, yellows, and reds to make some beautiful bonfire paintings. What a creative bunch we are! Lots of us also enjoyed attending our school bonfire night celebration – how exciting!
Term 1

Welcome back to a brand year and a brand new class of Hedgehogs! Our Big Question this term is 'What if you had Superpowers?'
Phonics
Our amazing Hedgehogs are making fantastic progress in their phonics! The children have been working really hard on recognising and pronouncing the phonemes correctly, and we are so proud of the progress they are making. To support their learning, we have created some helpful videos that demonstrate the correct articulation of each phoneme. These videos are a great tool for you to see how we teach phonics and to support your children with accurate pronunciation at home.
Week 7
As we come to the end of our first full term in Hedgehog Class, we’ve had so much to celebrate! This week, we took part in our school’s Harvest Festival with a joyful performance of Dingle Dangle Scarecrow. The children sang and danced with such enthusiasm – we were so proud of their confidence and teamwork on stage. It’s been a fantastic start to our learning journey. The children have settled beautifully into school routines, made new friendships, and grown in independence. We are so impressed with how well they have adapted to life in school. During our learning through play sessions, we’ve been focusing on developing fine motor skills – a key part of early writing and self-care. The children enjoyed activities such as “cutting hair” using paper strips, using tweezers, and other fun challenges to help strengthen those important finger muscles. We’re incredibly proud of everything the children have achieved this term. Well done, Hedgehogs – we can’t wait to see what next term brings!
Week 6
This week, we were inspired by the much-loved story We're Going on a Bear Hunt – but with a twist! The children transformed into superheroes and set off on an exciting villain hunt adventure! Everyone looked fantastic in their superhero costumes, full of energy and imagination. Together, we created a large, interactive 3D map of our journey, bringing each part of the story to life. The children explored descriptive language as they thought about the different sounds we might hear in each area – swishy swashy, squelch squerch, and more! Their creativity really shone through as they designed and made their own superhero capes – each one unique and full of personality. During Learning Through Play, they loved exploring our superhero-themed enhancements, showing confidence, curiosity, and collaboration in every activity. It’s been a week full of storytelling, role play, language development, and most importantly… fun!
Week 5
This week, we’ve been thinking all about real-life superheroes and the amazing qualities they have. We talked about the special people in our families who are superheroes to us, like kind mummies, strong daddies, and others who help us feel safe and cared for. We used our big muscles to draw large circles while lying on our tummies, helping to make our core strong—just like a superhero! In our play, we’ve had lots of fun exploring the provision, especially using an old telephone to call our superhero friends and share our important missions.Text Here
Week 4
What a surprise we had when we arrived in class to find that the vegetables Mrs Jordan had brought for her lunch had been captured! It didn’t take us long to realise the culprit was none other than the mischievous Evil Pea. Determined to help, we used our scissor skills to create our own Supertato heroes, ready to save the day. We then headed outside to search for clues, using our observation skills and imaginations. As part of our adventure, we drew maps to show the paths we followed, practising circular, straight, and zigzag pencil movements – an important step in developing early writing skills.
Week 3
We had an exciting surprise when we noticed that our class friend Lucy was missing! Together, we became investigators, following the clues and discovering that Mr. Freeze had taken her. The children worked collaboratively to design a clever trap and created wonderful signs, using their developing mark-making and early writing skills. We were delighted when Mr. Freeze was finally captured, and Lucy returned safely to join us in class. This playful adventure gave us lots of opportunities for imaginative learning, problem-solving, and creative enhancements.
Our first few weeks.
The children have settled in amazingly well and have already begun forming some wonderful friendships. We have been learning about our new school rules and have met our Learning Friends 'Bee Kind', 'Sharing Shelly' and 'Listening Lion'. We have had lots of fun exploring our new environment too.
