At Newton Tony Primary School, we believe in fostering a love for writing, engaging a community of writers who enjoy being creative and purposeful.
Our children learn the complete process of writing:
- encouraging children to write for purpose and audience where possible
- encourage confidence and valuing mark making in EYFS
- setting specific goals and fostering inquiry skills;
- becoming fluent with handwriting, spelling and sentence structures
- using the principles of Talk 4 Writing until structures are embedded
- using word processing and other programmes to present writing in a different format

Writing should encompass a range of genres, divided mainly in fiction and non-fiction:
- to inform, explain and describe (such as reports, explanations, travel guides and posters)
- to persuade, argue and advise (reviews, opinion pieces, advertisements)
- to analyse, review and comment (commentaries, articles)
