At Newton Tony CE VC school, we value every child and enjoy celebrating every step of progress made. Children with identified Special Educational Needs or a disability are closely monitored and supported. Due to our small class sizes, we can provide every child with quality tailored provision. We believe that children should ‘keep up’ rather than have to ‘catch up’ , so we introduce interventions in Year One and Year Two. Our current intervention programmes are ‘Project X’ (focus on phonics and reading) and First Class @ number (focus on maths). Children in Year One – Year Six benefit from daily individual ‘Precision Teaching’ to support reading, spelling and number patterns.
We have highly trained teaching and support staff who work as a team to support the needs of all children. Mrs Anderson is our qualified Emotional Support Assistant (ELSA), and children/families have the opportunity to access emotional support and counselling. We also fund ‘Kaleidoscope’ counselling for any child who needs specialist support. Newton Tony School subscribe to the Wiltshire Educational Psychologist Service to ensure we have access to additional specialist professional expertise. Miss Priestley is our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Co-ordinator. She works with our teaching staff and Teaching Assistants to help identify children who may have a SEN and ensure that we support them throughout the school.
