Mrs Gill Cartwright
I have lived in Cholderton for over thirty years. My commitment to Newton Tony School comes from a long association with it: my children all attended the school, I taught here for a while and my husband was a governor. I feel that local community is important, so I volunteer for the Link Scheme, I am on the Cholderton Village Hall committee and I run the Valley Book Group.
I love spending time with my family, especially my five grandchildren (soon to be six). My main hobby is quilting. I spend hours at my sewing machine. I also enjoy badminton, swimming, walking and reading.
Mr Simon Dawson
I am a Licensed Lay Minister in the Church of England, where much of my work is for St Andrew’s Church Newton Tony. I joined the governing body in 2016 to be the link between Church and School. In 2017 I was elected to the role of Chair of Governors. In the past I have had a varied career, working in the Royal Navy, in Sports Coaching , and as a Staff Nurse at Salisbury District Hospital. Those jobs have given me a lot of different skills and experiences to bring to my job of supporting the Head Teacher and her staff. I now live on a small-holding in Gomeldon but I visit Newton Tony a lot: spending time in the Church, the school, the RSPB nature reserve, and cycling in the woods and lanes around the valley. I enjoy spending time in the village, and I look forward to deepening my knowledge of the school and the village as I continue to work as a governor.
Major Gemma Fowler-Robinson
Having settled in the area in Spring 2018 and being a parent to two young children who will be using this beautiful rural school, led me to apply for a position as a parent school governor in Sept 2018. As well as being a parent, professionally I am currently a serving officer in the British Army. My career has been predominately in the HR field and has span some 20 plus years (and still counting). I hope to be able to support the school and continue to build on the good work that has already taken place, using my knowledge , skills and experience to develop, support and run the School as effectively as possible.
I am Squirrel Class teacher and love working in this friendly, church school. I want to help to continue to develop the school to be the best it can. I am the secretary for FONTS, our school PTA, and enjoy working as a team to raise money for the children to have new experiences and equipment. I have four grown-up children of my own and enjoy spending time with them when they are around! I also enjoy playing badminton, reading and sewing.
Mrs Amanda Kerry
I’ve been a parent governor since late 2016. My son really enjoys his time at Newton Tony school and as a governor and member of the management committee, I’m really pleased to be able to support the school to develop and run as effectively as possible. Having attended the same school myself (many years ago!), it’s great to see it continuing to thrive. I work as a content designer, designing government services for citizens, so I’m keen to use these skills to ensure the school is doing the best it can to meet the needs of all its users. After my degree in biomedical sciences I spent a few years working in science before moving into communications and web design. If any other parents are interested in joining our governing body, please feel free to have a chat with me to find out more.
Councillor John Smale
I have lived in the area for 14 years after a full career in the Army (Royal Engineers) followed by 11 years with MOD as a civil servant. I am a family man with a wife and two daughters. My interests are golf, gardening and walking my dogs. At present I am a Unitary Councillor for Wiltshire County and a Parish Councillor for Newton Tony. In my spare time, I am passionate about my family unit, spending; where possible, as much time together outdoors. We enjoy our caravan holidays; as well as travelling abroad. I enjoy being active and enjoy long distance running, raising money for charity (combining the two where possible), I’m a keen (amateur) cook and enjoy a good book.
